Train to Cullinan

I wanted to make fathersday extra special this year. As hubby has been such an awesome partner and daddy. I could never imagine myself going through this journey alone. There is nothing ever that is a mommy only job..Ok maybe the only thing he will give a miss is helping our diva eat supper in the evening as some days she is so fussy i normally end up either making food twice for her as she doesnt like what i made the first time or its a whole coaxing execise where everything gets dipped in tomatoe sauce. But he will do everything from diaper change well now that she is potty trainined it means washing little panties, which in the beginning he said never ever but he has since then changed his tune as we want to teach our little diva how to wash her own panties.

So this year for fathers day i wanted to step away from the boring just going out for lunch and supper and planned a day trip out of town to Cullinan. that with the car its about 45min drive but with the train it was a 2hour drive. We would have breakfast on the train and I planned croissants and hot chocolate for breakfast as it was a chilly morning. I couldnt find regular size croissants so got miniture croisants that was about 10cm big. and my my diva loved them with cheese. for breakfast she had 3 croissants. She ate croisants whole day.My diva was so excited as it was her first time in a moving transport and not being strapped into a carseat. She was really besides herself.and hubby managed to take a few of me too.. Its nice having some proof that i was also there and not just always be beind the lens.My diva was just a energizer bunny. all over the place.and i knew i couldnt not be prepared for this journey so i had to bring along some supplies. i brought some building block which actually turned out pretty exciting for her as there is not just the alphabet on them there was little drwaing of things she recognises like apple and doggy, etc and this kept her quite busy for a while identifying everything on the blocks. I also brought one of the magnetic photoframes with and some craft things for her to make a fathersday frame for her daddy which she loved and enjoyed. She is getting to be a real pro now.i just gave her the letters in order and she put them so nicely next to each other.

We did a little sight seeing around Cullinan. It is really not a big town we walked the mainstreet with its stalls in less than 30minutes. but it was bubbling with life as there were plus minus 400 people with us on the train. I think if we came any other time it would have been very quiet.and with all the excitement of the train ride she had a very early nap for the day. but it was ok she napped while we prepared the food. We had our own little braai. Then when she woke the food was almost ready for lunch and she gave daddy a helping hand. And after lunch and all her sweets she could play it off at the playground. Then after such an eventful day we were back on the train and everyone was so tired.

Afternoon Surprise Treat Box

Everyday when i go pick my litte diva from creche i have a little surprise on her carseat waiting for her. I started off with the best of intentions with giving her non food but it just gotten easier to leave a little tin with 6 smarties or fruit cubes, etc.

Last week i was browsing the Crafters market and came a cross a raw material box and had an ah hah moment. to decorate it so after buying the box and getting some decorating things and paint. So each afternoon while me and my diva waits for her daddy i systematically decorated it. not easy as i have a toddler who also things she can help..

What you need:

  • Craft paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Box to decorate mine is wooden
  • Embellishments ( i got my diva’s name in wooden letters and then some wooden embellishments
  • Craft Glue

How to start:

Start by painting the box

Our Crafters market was brilliant as they had small little craft paints  because i really didnt need a whole tub of craft paint for this little project, and they had a nice idea of making a pallet to hold these little bottles. makes painting so much easier.

i used different colour craft paint to paint the embellishments. i decided to leave the name in raw wood. Once all the painting has been done and it is dry then you can start glueing the embellishments to the box.

Now my diva have a pretty box that houses her afternoon surprise.

i am planning a big photowall in our lounge which will require 9 canvasses. but i have now decided that 4 of those canvasses will be artwork placed inbetween the 5 canvased photos. When we visited our family in P.E in April we did a family shoot with our wedding photographer. So once we get our photos i will choose 5 of those to canvas. I already started with the art work. My diva did one at her birthday party. With this canvas as inspiration. I will let her make 3more canvases based on these colours. This weekend she did a Pink, blue & silver  with blue and pink glitter
painting. i was thinking handprints but my diva had some other ideas. and i make it a mission not to interfere with her creative process.and when she thought she did enough she handed me the painting and said “finished”, and walked away..LOL

Project DL

Me and my diva was working very hard over the weekend on a special project for fathersday. But as my dear hubby from time to time pop in on here i cant share it just yet. So you will just have to wait in baited breath till Sunday. Though what i can give you is a bit of after the fact shots  i got of her playing with bubbles i bought her that morning. Though she just could not get it right in making bubbles.

We were at the mall and there was a fairy station with fairies doing facepainting and i thought it would be nice for her to have it done seeing as we were gonna take photos right after that. She actually surprised me by sitting very still while the fairies painted her face.

and then the bubble liquid got finished as most fell out coz of the way she was holding it. and she still tried to get the last bit out.Just love the look of surprise that everything is done. Like mommy please make some more bubbles..

Handprint on tie

I was searching high and low for an idea for my diva to make for her grandfather for fathers day and came across this ingenious idea that made me me say “now why didn’t i think about that.” It was hand and feet print on a tie. what makes it such a perfect gift is that her grandfather wears one almost every day of the week. So he will definitely find an occasion to wear this creation. Dh saw the idea and even though he doesn’t like wearing ties he also wanted one. what you need:

  • Plain tie( i choose black varients)
  • fabric paint (colour of your choice i choose silver)

How to:

I throw some of the fabric paint on a palette and then rubbed my diva’s hands in it.  her hands just managed to fit on the tie. so took careful planning as to where to place it. This idea would work wonderful for smaller kiddies.

I read that you have to iron on the reverse of the fabric after you painted but a tie is tricky so i put a peace of fabric over the prints and ironed it like that. hope it works like this.

Imke’s Fairy Birthday Party

As promised in previos post I will dish all the photos i took at this magical fairy party Me and my little diva went to over the weekend. Imke turned 3 and her mommy held a fairy tale of a birthday to celebrate this occasion.

When we arrived we were greeted by a Fairy godmother that granted my diva to be a little fairy for the day. She then got her fairy attire to show she is a hard core fairy.

The decorations was breathtaking and spectacular. This mommy definately paid attentions to detail as everything was hand made to make this fairy party spectacular.

Oh and the birthday girl could hardly wait to open gifts. she was so excited when people arrived with the gifts that she opened some right there and then.. so cute to see that excited expression.

There were a crafts table where the kiddies could decorate their own gift boxes. Well as you know my diva is a craftaholic so she spendt almost the whole party sitting at the table taking her time in painting and decorating her box with almost everything on the table.

I had to drag her away from the table to come at least eat something.

Then it was time to play away the sugar high..

And i just love these photosPerfect fairy tale experience
